I started collecting cartridges in 1974, when I received a .56-50 cartridge with a Spencer carbine I purchased. My first collecting interests were W.R.A.Co. headstamps and .45-70 variations, but I now consider myself to be a 'general' collector, as my collection pretty well covers all areas except perhaps post-1900 military. I have set up this page for the sole purpose of adding to and upgrading my own cartridge collection and having a little fun while doing it. I am always looking for cartridges to add to my collection or to include in my trade list; please e-mail me if you have cartridges to sell or trade, or have any of the items included on my 'wants' lists. Also. if you are a cartridge collector, please e-mail me and let me know what your specific collecting interests are.

To see the items I have to trade or sell, or those that I'm trying to locate, click on any of the categories listed below. If you find something that interests you, and have something in cartridges or shotshells you'd like to trade for it, please let me know.

THE OLD AMMO GUY'S TRADING TABLE

The following lists contain my current stock of duplicates, a few guns, and
items I'm trying to locate; please note that many of the cartridges listed are in
short supply, only one or two in many cases. Also note that this ammunition is
intended for collecting, not for shooting. I make no guarrantees regarding it's
ability to be fired. Unless indicated for a particular cartridge on my lists, I do not
have full boxes of ammunition, only singles.

One of the selections below is titled 'BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR....' (selection
# 9). It describes a cartridge or other gun-related item that I'm currently searching
for. If you have the described item and wish to sell or trade it, please e-mail me
and put an end to my anguish. I intend to change this item every few months or so.
As I add a new one, the old one will be moved to my wants list (selection # 10 below)
if it has not already been found. Please check these occasionally and advise me
if you have any of the items listed to sell or trade.

I will attempt to keep all of the lists as up-to-date as possible, but will be limited
in this effort by (a) problems experienced with AOL and (b) the need to spend at
least a little of my available time doing the many things that are required to keep
a family and home intact. Please bear with me if it seems I'm a little slow in this
effort.

Pictured above are three boxes of 5-IN-1 blanks produced for the movie industry. These were made by Remington-UMC, probably in the 1950s, and either loaded by them, or sold by them unloaded in unmarked boxes for custom loading, as was probably the case for the Ellis and Stembridge boxes. They are called 5-IN-1 because they fit rifles chambered for 38-40 and 44-40, and pistols chambered for 38-40, 44-40 and 45 Colt. The cases have a longer neck than standard, with a tapered, bullet-shaped crimp that allows them to feed without jamming in a repeating rifle. The cases are headstamped 'REM-UMC 5-IN-1.

I have a number of these full boxes of 44-40 primed shells to sell or trade. Made by Winchester about 1900, they are in excellent condition, and contain the extended length (1.58")cases intended to be loaded as shot cartridges. The label is marked 'Blank Cartridges' with a small stick on overlabel marked in red ink 'Primed Shells'. The label is also marked 'Adapted to Winchester Model 1873 and Other 44 Caliber Rifles'. These boxes are $60 each.

Cartridge collectors and others with an interest in old ammunition can now subscribe to a list server that is devoted solely to old ammunition. I am a subscriber to the OLDAMMO list; I am not the administrator. To subscribe, send e-mail to: oldammo@oldguns.com
Type SUBSCRIBE in the subject space. Nothing is required in the body, but your e-mail software may require something there - if so, type in anything, or just hit the space bar; then send your e-mail. You should receive a 'Welcome to the listserver' message within 24 hours or so, and will then start receiving mail from the list server pertaining to old ammunition. Be sure to post your own message - say hello, ask a question or make a comment. The listserver is not real active, but it can prove to be a good resource for cartridge and shotshell information. It will only work if the subscribers contribute.
